STUDENTS
DESIGN
AWARDS
THE WINNER OF THE FINAT CONGRESS
LOGO COMPETITION 2013
Many innovative and motivating designs
were received from several educational
establishments. It is interesting to note
the difference in approach between
students from Southern and Northern
Europe. The designs from Germany are
functional and, in general, focus more on
the use of angles and lines and words
rather than tying in the design with a local
iconic symbol or well known landmark.
The winning design for the 2013 FINAT
Congress logo was submitted by Lena Lidl
a student from the Johannes-Gutenberg-
Schule, Stuttgart. Lena will be presented
with her award during the FINAT Awards
evening 13th June at the Westin Grand
Hotel, Munich. Sarah Peters and Adrian
Fuhrmann, also from the Johannes-
Gutenberg-Schule, respectively receive
the second and third prize.
The annual FINAT Congress logo competition is open to graphic design students from the host country
each year and has been running for more than four years. The 2013 Congress is to be held in Munich
therefore local colleges and schools with a design course were approached late in 2012. Around fifty
designs were submitted for consideration.
The design is very straightforward and
simplistic with a large bold type face which
tells the viewer immediately the theme of
the Congress. The use of the graduated
cones in solid colours has two functions:
leading the eye directly to the Congress
theme and perhaps more importantly
guiding us into the future with ever
expanding opportunities. The use of the
FINAT house colours also identifies the
logo with the FINAT organisation.

The award winning logo
An important requirement is that the
winning logo should be capable of
reproduction on a variety of media, tee
shirts, administration headed note
papers, flags etc. This design can easily
be used with any of the main printing
technologies used in the label industry.
FINAT is looking forward to using the
symbol on all promotional media before
and during the Congress.
