the
importance
of
finat
services
The FINAT Technical Handbook (including the FINAT Test
Methods) and Technical Seminar are a real asset. The end-user
market study and educational handbook get high scores too.

Respondents were also asked which programmes and activities
FINAT could offer to further enhance the value of membership.
From the survey it can be concluded that cross-border
company benchmarking (technical as well as financial) could
add more value to the current FINAT membership together
with industry statistics and indices. This is a quite familiar
desire among trade associations, however it should be
considered that this requires a representative participation
rate in these kinds of activities from FINAT members.
Producing industry statistics can only be done reliably and
affordably if a majority of the members are willing to deliver
their company data and results to a data processing or research
firm on a regular and punctual basis.
technical
seminars
As further illustration of our industry’s ‘technical’ orientation,
almost three quarters of the respondents participated in one
or more Technical Seminars. The importance of topics differs
quite a bit between the several types of members. Direct
suppliers are very interested in market trends. Indirect
suppliers are focussed on raw materials and substrates.
Converters like technical innovations, market trends and label
manufacturing.
general
appreciation
of
the membership
Networking is one of the most important member benefits.
Industry statistics, market information and technical informa-
tion get a high rating too. Secondary benefits such as member
discounts are not considered very valuable. However also
elementary functions of a trade association such as lobbying
and industry promotion are rated comparatively low (perhaps
this is because the results of these activities are not exclusively
benefiting the members).
