Together with the Tarsus/Labels
and Labelling Team, Paul Jarvis
(4impression, UK) and Sietze de Kievit
(CTI, NL) the Label Academy
consortium has been set up which
behind the scenes has been working on
the execution of this six point action
plan. Key stages in this whole
evolutionary programme are:
• 20 modules of the syllabus for
education and training modules have
been identified and proposed
• The first 6 learning modules for each
syllabus subject are currently being
written: ‘Label Substrates’; ‘Label
Printing Processes’; ‘Design and
Origination’; ‘Inks, Coatings and
Varnishes’; ‘Dies, Die-cutting and
Tooling’ as well as ‘Environment and
Sustainability’.
• Logbooks for a number of syllabus
subjects are being prepared.
• Initial pilot training events are being
trialed in The Netherlands.
• Implementation budgets and potential
industry sponsorship targets are being
developed
• An evaluation of the latest e-learning
software and systems is being
undertaken.
• Initial steps now being taken towards
UK qualification and apprenticeship
level as a first step towards national,
European and global qualification.
• Initial steps are being taken to create a
Certification system.
• Alongside the FINAT Board, the
consortium is aiming for endorsement
by the Packaging Society.
The consortium aims to launch the entire
programme at Labelexpo Europe 2013.
