It is my pleasure to welcome you to the third edition of the FINAT Yearbook. This year’s edition gives an
account of what happened during the association year 2012/2013.
DEAR READER,
Since its foundation back in 1958, the FINAT calendar has
coincided with the calendar year. Programme planning,
budgeting and the invoicing of membership fees have always
been planned accordingly. And yet, the annual congress,
which is always held mid-term, is the yearly ‘moment of
truth’ for the association.
This is the occasion when the Board and Committees present a
report of their activities and where members approve the
accounts of the previous year. And here is where the industry
leaders meet for an exchange of views and dialogue on pending
industry matters. This is also the time when we benchmark
general industry trends, developments and statistics. And from
here, members return home to their business headquarters
with renewed inspiration and energy based on what they have
learned and experienced.
The FINAT Yearbook therefore follows the congress cycle,
and carries the congress theme as its title. 2013 is no
exception. Between the memorable FINAT congress in
Athens and this year’s (56
th
) annual get together in Munich,
this time with Germany’s label association VskE, again a lot
has happened.
The FINAT Yearbook 2013, ‘Label Your Future’ presents an
overview of the many activities and accomplishments of the
association over the past 12 months. The reports in this
Yearbook reflect the different shapes and identities of the
international label industry trade association that FINAT is:
EMBASSY: FINAT
as the lobbying body representing the
combined European interests of the label industry by
monitoring regulatory developments, assessing potential risk
and concerns for the industry, and addressing the
stakeholders and authorities to represent our common
interest
CLEARINGHOUSE: FINAT
pooling the knowledge,
experience and resources and combining the efforts of
companies and associations to achieve common goals that
could not be achieved individually.
SHOP WINDOW: FINAT
communicating success stories
and presenting the ‘best in class’; raising awareness internally
and externally about what can be achieved with the
versatility and dynamic entrepreneurship of this industry.
GUIDE: FINAT
as a standards body developing industry
standards, terminology, guidelines, conventions, best
practices, qualification standards and accreditation
programmes, as seals of quality and benchmarks for
continuous improvement.
LIBRARY: FINAT
offering a centre of knowledge exchange,
as a unique ‘hub’ for articles, whitepapers, publications,
presentations and educational materials as well as up to date
data and information exclusively for members.
SERVICE CENTRE: FINAT
offering exclusive programmes,
events, services, deals and discounts to its members.
ACADEMY: FINAT
preparing current and future leaders for
their tasks and duties on the international business scene, by
gaining experience as volunteer leaders inside the
association (the ‘FINAT MBA’).
SENATE: FINAT
as the democratic body where views and
opinions meet and where discussion, dialogue and
interaction determine its future course and vision.
EXECUTIVE CLUB: FINAT
as a networking platform for
business leaders to meet, interact, connect, develop
personal friendships and business partnerships, and nurture
the common history, culture and identity that this industry
has derived from FINAT.
FINAT is there to play many of these roles. It is up to you as
reader and (potential) FINAT members to reap the fruits of
the platform that our association offers. FINAT is there to help
its members Label their Future. May this Yearbook serve as
source of inspiration!
