The FINAT Community
was created with the
objective to offer
FINAT members a ‘first
port of call’ on the internet, allowing
access to a resource of exclusive
knowledge and information, a database
of relevant targeted contacts and a
peer-to-peer member platform to
engage representatives of FINAT
member companies at all levels
(management, management
development, marketing & sales,
production management, quality
management, R&D, HR, etc).
So far, 754 member profiles have been
registered for the ‘private’ section of the
FINAT website. Visitor numbers have
remained behind those recorded for the
public part of the website, but this is
going to change! With the improved
ease of access to the FINAT Members’
Area, it is now even simpler to obtain
information about the label industry.
Presentations from previous FINAT
events, test methods, relevant articles
and industry news can all be found and
downloaded
free of charge!
Following
log-in on the members’ area of www.
finat.com, members are welcomed to
the online FINAT community where they
have access to label industry information
via the Knowledge and Education
document library.
New documents are collected,
assembled and uploaded on a monthly
basis by FINAT and its Knowledge Hub
partners 4impression. The Members’
Area also contains specific committee
information, blogs and more information
on sustainability. In preparation if also a
FINAT channel where video interviews
and recordings of FINAT ad third party
events will be uploaded for viewing.

As stated, all employees of FINAT
member companies are included and
therefore, all can create a personal
account in the Members’ Area to start
enjoying the FINAT online community.
Member company representatives with
an email address matching the registered
member company domain (such as
‘ john.doe@finat.com’
) can click on the
members only button, register their
profile and benefit from the unique
features of this section of the website.
With a personal profile, users can set
their own parameters so they only
review the information that is relevant to
them. Users can also be informed by
e-mail when new articles and news
releases have been published.

If you want to know what keeps the label
community busy, a visit to the blog area
on the FINAT website is a must.
Frequently, members of the FINAT
Board and Committees as well as people
from all over the industry will be posting
their blogs on the online FINAT
community. As a reader, you will have
the opportunity to not only digest
content but also post comments and
engage in discussions with bloggers. For
sneak previews of upcoming events, new
developments in certain areas (e.g.
sustainability, label printing) and
opinions on hot topics, the online FINAT
community will be the place to visit.

You may ask yourself: what does all this
add to the wider world of social media,
and why did FINAT create its own
community? To answer: it is not a matter
of ‘either or’. On the contrary: both
platforms are mutually reinforcing each
other!!
Over the past two years, FINAT as well as
its members have gone through a
‘learning curve’ as far as community
building and the use of social networks
are concerned. FINAT is now active on
the most common social media
channels. Follow FINAT on twitter (@
FINATcom), which currently has over
200 followers, or join the LinkedIn group
with over 1400 members. There is also a
FINAT Facebook group of nearly 200
members. What is the relationship
between all these platforms currently
being used? A ‘typography’:
