practice, not only among members of the same business generation, but also from one generation to the next.
With now almost 55 years of history behind us, FINAT has been part of the evolution of the industry it represents and has helped its members to manage change and anticipate or adapt through the different stages of post-war development: from the industrial recovery of the fifties and sixties, into the technology society of the seventies, eighties and nineties, and into the modern information society of the late nineties and early Millennium.
And now, in the 20ties it is time to prepare for generation Y, also called the Millennials: Generation Next, or the Next Generation (born between 1980 and 2000). If they aren’t already on the reader’s radar screen, they very soon will be. This generation’s members have grown up with computers, mobile phones, the internet and social media, and are permanently connected with their environment as well as to the communities they have built around them.

They are open to political, economic and cultural trends in society; are customer driven; welcome new experiences; and are prepared to take risks in order to convert opportunities into successful business opportunities.
With their natural connection to the virtual reality, the Millennials have added a new dimension to the geographic ‘here’ and ‘there’ and the chronological ‘now’ and ‘then’. The multi dimensional, personalised world in which they develop their experience by default makes them more susceptible to new business models and hence the triple P.
It is the role of FINAT to inform, educate, encourage and enable members to embrace this new business model, so that they fully incorporate their corporate responsibility to shareholders, communities, and the environment in their business strategies, as part of a single, sustainable value proposition to the market.
In fact, membership of FINAT IS part of your corporate social responsibility!

Apart from visionary reflections like the dream scenario I just shared, the 2012 FINAT Yearbook contains an overview of the activities and initiatives that took place under the roof of your association over the past two semesters.
I take this opportunity to thank the advertisers who made this publication possible, as well as our professional partners 4impression, Ann Hirst-Smith Associates, AWA Consulting, Compres Publishers, Duomedia, Labels & Labeling, Labelexpo Global Series, Mike Fairley as well as the staff of LEJEUNE Association Management at the FINAT secretariat, all of whom contributed to this Yearbook.
But above all, I thank the numerous volunteers, and their companies, who shared their know-how, expertise and manpower to the common benefit of our sustainable future!
